The eastern end near Bahnhof Zoo and Hardenbergstraße behaves like a city centre: crowded pavements, loading bans and hotel entrances. Around Savignyplatz the street narrows under the S-Bahn arches. West of Leibnizstraße it turns into a shopping stretch towards Wilmersdorfer Straße and Stuttgarter Platz, and past Amtsgerichtsplatz it becomes Neue Kantstraße heading for the exhibition grounds. A house number tells me all of that in one go.
Front building, side wing or rear house
Most residential entrances along here belong to Wilhelminian blocks with a front building, a side wing and often a rear house around the courtyard, with 1950s infill where wartime damage was cleared. The street door usually carries a modern profile cylinder, while flat doors deeper inside can still have narrow old mortise locks that nobody ever upgraded. Ground-floor units along the street often use a different door and a different lock from the residential staircase above them. How quickly can you actually be on Kantstraße?

Can you cut me a spare key while you are here?
No. There is no shop and no key-cutting machine, only a van. What I can do is fit a replacement cylinder and hand you the new keys that come with it.
